What We Think We Know

I came across this little statement while reading about the Pentagon's attempt to have more scientist heroes in the movies. (No, really)

Finally, there's the issue of science illiteracy. One of the participants in the Catalyst Worshop, Diandra Leslie-Pelecky, a materials physicist at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, cites a recent survey showing that 30% of the American public is still under the impression that the sun orbits around the earth.

I'll remember that the next time I see a poll that I think backs up my contention (or anyone elses for that matter.) Any given poll might accurately measure WHAT people believe, but it doesn't have a thing to say about HOW IDIOTIC their beliefs might be.

My brain hurts.
