Hope (At Walgreens No Less)

I was surfing around and found the following:

I experienced the same affliction this Christmas- cold, fever, chills, aches, stuffy nose (yadda, yadda, yadda). Normally when I get to feeling this way a simple double-dose of Nyquil and a good night's sleep will put me to rights by the next morning, so on Christmas Eve day Mrs. scm went to Walgreeens in search of more good ol' Nyquil.
"Sure, we've got it" they told her, only to find that it was the "new and improved" Nyquil, not the same formula for which they've gained a name for themselves. When she asked the Druggist if they had any of the old Nyquil, the "good stuff", he told her that Nyquil no longer makes that particular formula. However, Walgreens happens to offer a very similar private-label product that can be had if one asks at the counter (and shows ID). She didn't buy the Nyquil and went for the Walgreens brand product instead.

Ok, here's where things get really weird. The Walgreens product is labelled something like "Produced and packaged by the Vicks company for Walgreeens, Inc" (the bottle is upstairs and I don't feel like running up there to get the exact wording, but you get the drift). What I don't understand is: As the producer of the "original" Nyquil, why does Vicks still produce the very same product for private-label use, but won't offer it up for sale under it's original name? Are they afraid to be associated with a product that people have to ask for and buy from behind the counter, like it's contraband or something?

The good news (for me) is they are just about to open a Walgreen where I live. Hope springs eternal.
