A 6-year-old Iowa City girl reported missing Wednesday evening was found safely in her bed following a search by dozens of police and community members.
Krystal Halter was reported missing by her mother around 7:45 p.m. Wednesday. The girl had been playing outside with other children until about 7:15 p.m. and was supposed to go home, but her mother had not seen her return 30 minutes later, Iowa City Police Sgt. Troy Kelsay said.
About 16 police officers and other community members searched the southeast Iowa City neighborhood and a nearby swamp through the evening, Kelsay said.
“As people became aware of the search, they came out on their own to help,” he said.
Krystal was located around 12:15 a.m. today, asleep in her bed, Kelsay said. The girl had apparently come home at some point and gone directly to her bedroom without checking in with her mother, Kelsay said.
It seems that the very first assumption drawn when the child wasn't exactly where the mother expected her to be was that the girl had something horrible befall her. So there was almost 5 hours worth of panic caused by the fact that a little girl got sleepy and went to bed.
Let's hope she never gets out of bed for a drink of water in the middle of the night. The National Guard might get called in for that.

The girl was lost for an hour before Police were called. They did check her room. She had snuck in climbed under the bed deliberately to hide. She then fell aslepp in her hiding place.
Hmm..well, then the Register got almost every particular of the story wrong. If true, it doesn't say much about their information gathering skills.
